MCG plans new C&D waste plant by next Feb
Officials said Gurgaon requires 12 C&D waste collection points, based on the norm of one collection point for every 25 sq km grid

Gurgaon: MCG has outlined a roadmap to strengthen the collection, processing and utilisation of construction and demolition (C&D) waste in the city. At a recent review meeting of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), the civic body said a new 400-tonne-per-day C&D waste processing plant is in the pipeline and is expected to be operational by Feb 2027.Officials said Gurgaon requires 12 C&D waste collection points, based on the norm of one collection point for every 25 sq km grid. At present, collection facilities are operational at Basai and Begampur Khatola. Officials added that collection centres at Babupur and Daulatabad will be operational before the month-end.Moreover, MCG has identified 20 locations to establish C&D secondary waste collection centres, including Sectors 46, 47, 4, 21, 22, 38 and 40, Palam Vihar C2 Block, Sarai STP, Ullawas Road, Kadipur, Sector 56 and 57 boosting stations, Atul Kataria Chowk green belt and Kadarpur, vacant plot in Baliyawas village, besides other locations.“We have identified 20 sites to be developed as secondary waste collection centres for C&D waste,” said an MCG official.The civic body also presented details of C&D waste processing and utilisation. According to the data, 3.3 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of processed waste were sold in the private market during the last financial year, while 11,584 MT were procured by govt agencies. MCG estimates that the city will generate around 1,100 tonnes per day (TPD) of processed C&D products. Of this, the corporation has set a target of 100 TPD offtake by govt agencies and 1,000 TPD by private agencies.MCG also plans to undertake information, education and awareness (IEC) activities to raise awareness of processed materials and promote the use of processed C&D waste in municipal works.
