New Delhi: Encouraged by the positive response to advance property tax payments, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has decided to extend the deadline for availing the 10% rebate by one month.Under the existing provision, property owners who make a lump-sum payment during the first quarter of the financial year—typically on or before June 30—are eligible for the rebate on their total property tax. The MCD has now extended this benefit until July 31, Mayor Pravesh Wahi announced Tuesday. The mayor said the extension was granted to facilitate taxpayers who, due to various reasons, were unable to pay their property tax within the stipulated time and avail themselves of the rebate.“There is hardly any possibility of extending the deadline again. We request all property owners to pay their taxes responsibly within the revised deadline,” the mayor said.According to an MCD official, the civic body has made electricity consumer account numbers mandatory while filing property tax this year.Meanwhile, several taxpayers reported technical issues with the MCD portal over the past three days, saying the slow functioning of the website made it difficult to complete the payment process. Officials attributed the problem to heavy traffic on the portal due to last-minute filings.According to the MCD, it had collected ₹1,260 crore in advance property tax till Tuesday evening, compared with ₹1,040 crore during the corresponding period last year, registering a 20% increase in collections.
