NEW DELHI: The Delhi Traffic Police has issued a traffic advisory ahead of the motorcade rehearsal for the BRICS Summit 2026, with restrictions and diversions set to affect several key roads in the national Capital on September 2.The rehearsal will be held from 10am to 3pm.According to a ministry of external affairs statement, the 18th BRICS Summit will take place from September 12 to 13 at Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan, news agency PTI reported.The advisory said traffic movement will be regulated at 22 diversion points and on more than 35 roads during the rehearsal.Motorists have been advised to plan their journeys and use alternate routes wherever possible.Major roads likely to be affected include Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Teen Murti Marg, Akbar Road, Tees January Marg, Rajesh Pilot Marg, Subramaniam Bharti Marg, Mathura Road, Moti Lal Nehru Marg, Dr Zakir Hussain Marg, Brigadier Hoshiar Singh Marg, Africa Avenue Road, Satya Marg, Shanti Path, Janpath, Ashoka Road, Barakhamba Road, Tolstoy Marg, Ranjeet Singh Flyover, Niti Marg, Panchsheel Marg, Kamal Ataturk Marg, A P J Abdul Kalam Road and Press Enclave Road.The traffic police have identified several diversion points, including Dr Dinesh Nandini Dalmia Chowk, Ram Charan Aggarwal Chowk, Mir Dard Chowk, Kasturba Gandhi Marg/Outer Circle, Janpath-Connaught Place, Patel Chowk, RML Hospital roundabout, Dhaula Kuan flyover, Moti Bagh flyover, Lodhi Road and Mandir House.Officials said traffic approaching the controlled stretches will be diverted through alternate corridors such as Ring Road, IP Marg, BSZ Marg, Delhi Gate, Sikandra Road, Lodhi Road, Aurobindo Marg, Vande Mataram Marg and other arterial routes.The advisory provides alternate routes for passengers travelling to New Delhi, Old Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations.Travellers heading to the airport have been advised to use the Metro, particularly during the advisory window.For passengers travelling from Gurugram, Dwarka, New Delhi, South Delhi, West Delhi and North and East Delhi, the traffic police have suggested specific road corridors to reach the airport while avoiding regulated stretches.Officials said Metro services will remain operational, while bus routes may face diversions during VIP movements, PTI reported.Taxis and auto-rickshaws will not be permitted to park along roads except at designated locations.The traffic police advised commuters to plan their journeys early, particularly when travelling to airports, railway stations and ISBTs.Non-destined commercial vehicles will also be prohibited from entering Delhi during the regulated period.Emergency and medical vehicles will be provided obstruction-free passage, while essential services and utilities will continue to have access.Officials have advised commuters to follow the instructions of traffic personnel, avoid roadside parking within 200 metres of controlled roads and report any suspicious object or activity to the nearest police officer.(With agency inputs)
