MC gets ₹200cr 2nd-quarter grant from UT admn

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh administration has released a grant-in-aid (GiA) of Rs 200 crore to the municipal corporation (MC) for the second quarter (July-Sept) of the 2026-27 financial year.With the latest instalment, the civic body has received a total of Rs 500 crore so far this fiscal, including Rs 300 crore released during the first quarter (April-June). The administration has earmarked Rs 850 crore as GiA for the MC for the current financial year.MC officials said the accounts department has begun the process of allocating funds according to departmental requirements and priorities. Sources said meeting committed liabilities, including salaries, wages and utility bills, would remain the civic body’s top priority.“The accounts department has been directed to ensure timely release of salaries, payment of bills and other essential expenditures. Heads of departments have also been asked to ensure there is no delay,” a source said.With civic polls scheduled for Dec and the current house entering the final year of its five-year term, councillors are pressing for the execution of pending development works in their wards.Officials said the general house and the finance and contract committee have already approved several proposals involving expenditure worth crores of rupees.
