Pune: Mayor Manjusha Nagpure on Thursday said she inspected traffic congestion hotspots on Sinhagad Road a day earlier and suggested measures to the traffic police and PMC to ease bottlenecks. Her visit followed complains of poor roads disrupting traffic across the city, with Sinhagad Road emerging as one of the worst-affected stretches.“Urgent interventions are needed on major roads facing frequent congestion and the traffic police must play a key role in clearing bottlenecks and keeping vehicles moving,” she said.The mayor said Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) was ready to deploy additional wardens if the traffic police submitted a formal proposal. “I monitored traffic situation and even interacted with residents along Sinhagad Road over the past three days. We observed that traffic movement was extremely slow. The traffic police need to increase deployment at vulnerable chowks to ensure smoother flow of vehicles,” she said.Nagpure has directed officials to prepare a detailed action plan within the next 15 days to address traffic bottlenecks in the Sinhagad Road area. She said all stakeholders, including PMC and the traffic police, must work in coordination to improve traffic conditions across the city.Mayor says potholes fewer this monsoon, commuters disagreeThe mayor said the number of potholes on city roads was lower this monsoon compared to previous years, while acknowledging the need for repairs. Commuters said several roads remained in poor condition and were unsafe for daily travel, with potholes slowing vehicular movement.Nagpure further said PMC had been told to undertake road restoration works. She also warned of strict action against those responsible for substandard manhole-related works.Standing committee chairperson Shrinath Bhimale said he had directed officials to inspect damaged roads and initiate repair works at the earliest. “Potholes are reappearing on several roads. PMC must continuously monitor and follow up on repair works,” Bhimale said.
