Gurgaon: A prolonged political impasse at Municipal Corporation of Manesar (MCM) has begun to hit governance, with no House or finance and contracts committee (F&CC) meeting held in over three months — leaving development projects worth Rs 137 crore stuck for approval.The House last met on March 16, and the F&CC on March 21. Officials say the deadlock stems from ongoing friction between the mayor and a section of councillors, which has repeatedly disrupted the body’s functioning.The corporation’s own administration has flagged the delay. Secretary Apoorva Chaudhary wrote to the mayor on June 23, urging that an F&CC meeting be fixed urgently, noting that dozens of agenda items related to contracts, procurements and administrative approvals were pending.Citing the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, which empowers the F&CC to clear contracts and financial matters, the letter said that a meeting was essential for the “timely execution of developmental and administrative works.” Despite this, no meeting has been convened so far.The pending agenda lists 32 projects — community centres, roads, drainage and sewerage networks, water supply works, an indoor stadium, an auditorium, recreation and cultural centres, sewage treatment infrastructure, and boundary walls — spread across multiple wards.Senior deputy mayor Praveen Yadav said he has repeatedly raised the issue. “Meetings are not happening for the last several months, due to which development works of the MCM are on hold. I have been raising the issue, but no action is being taken,” he told TOI.Councillors said the standoff has also blocked discussion on civic issues and delayed policy decisions. Ward 5 councillor Dinesh Yadav said engineers have prepared estimates and funds are earmarked, but files remain stuck without clearance.“My ward specifically is not affected, but the lack of meetings has hit development work across Manesar,” he said.With monsoon underway, councillors fear further delays could disrupt drainage, sewerage and road works awaiting sanction, potentially setting back infrastructure projects by months.Mayor Inderjeet Kaur Yadav did not respond to repeated calls and messages seeking comment.MCM commissioner Pradeep Singh said the agency has written to the mayor explaining the problem. “However, she has sought certain additional information. We will submit it shortly and then a decision will be taken by her,” Singh told TOI.While the House is aligned with BJP, internal divide remains evident. Twelve councillors are broadly seen as belonging to the Rao Narbir Singh camp, while the eight newly inducted councillors, who joined the party along with the Manesar mayor in April this year, have aligned with the Rao Inderjit Singh faction.
