Chandigarh: Mayor Saurabh Joshi Thursday met representatives of various employees’ and workers’ unions, who submitted memorandums highlighting long-pending service-related and welfare issues.The unions raised concerns over the timely disbursal of salaries, pensions and retirement benefits, medical reimbursement, compassionate appointments, regularisation of eligible employees, welfare measures for outsourced workers, leave benefits, uniforms, safety gear, identity cards and clearance of pending arrears. They also sought early resolution of issues concerning retired employees, road workers, security guards and outsourced staff working across departments.The mayor assured the representatives that all genuine demands would be examined on priority by the departments concerned. He emphasised that municipal corporation employees form the backbone of civic service delivery and that their welfare remains a key priority.Joshi further assured the unions that issues falling under the Chandigarh administration’s jurisdiction would be pursued with the appropriate authorities for an early resolution. He said continuous dialogue with employee representatives was essential for strengthening staff welfare and improving public service delivery.
