Palanpur: A man accused of attempting to sexually assault an 11-year-old girl in a school washroom in Idar was sentenced to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment by the Idar Pocso court.Additional public prosecutor PJ Soni said the crime occurred on Feb 20, 2025, when the girl, a Class 6 student, had gone to the govt primary school around noon. The accused, Ajay Vaghri, allegedly followed her into the school premises, forcibly took her towards the washroom and attempted to sexually assault her.The girl’s cries alerted people nearby, after which Vaghri fled. The girl’s account was subsequently recorded and a case was registered at Idar police station.At trial, the prosecution examined witnesses and produced documentary and other evidence before the court.“After considering the evidence and arguments, special Pocso court judge M Y Radhanpurwala found the accused guilty and punished him,” Soni said.. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 31,000 on the convict and ordered that Rs 3 lakh compensation be paid to the victim.
