Gurgaon: A 50-year-old man was allegedly murdered by his neighbour in Faridabad on Thursday after he objected to the harassment of his daughter. The accused allegedly strangled the victim and dumped the body in a forest area, police said, adding that he has been arrested.The victim, Mukesh Kumar, a native of Meerut in UP, lived with his family in a rented house in Faridabad’s Thakur Mohalla area near Sarang Chowk and worked at a private company.According to the victim’s family, the accused, Karan, lived nearby on rent and had allegedly been harassing Mukesh’s daughter for a long time. They alleged that he would stop her on the way and harass her despite repeated objections from the family and other residents.Police said the situation escalated on Thursday when the accused allegedly created a disturbance outside the family’s house. Mukesh and some neighbours tried to calm him down, but an argument broke out during which the accused allegedly abused and misbehaved with people before leaving the spot.Police said Karan returned between 4pm and 5pm and allegedly called Mukesh outside on the pretext of settling the dispute through conversation. Mukesh left with him but did not return home. As the night progressed, family members began searching for him. Neighbours informed them that Mukesh was last seen with Karan.When confronted, the accused allegedly avoided answering questions, following which the family approached the police. During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to strangling Mukesh and dumping the body in a forest area, police said.Acting on his statement, police recovered the body around 2am from a forest stretch between Nangla and Nekpur. “A murder case has been registered against the accused. He is being questioned and further investigation is underway,” police spokesperson Yashpal Singh said.An autopsy was conducted and the body was later handed over to the family.
