Varanasi: A 27-year-old man allegedly stabbed his wife and mother-in-law to death at Bachhaeepur village in Ballia late Saturday after his in-laws refused to send his wife with him. His minor son and father-in-law were injured in the attack, police said.Ballia SP Omveer Singh said the accused, Amit Gupta, a resident of Singhachaur under Gadwar police station, attacked his wife, Preeti Gupta, 22, mother-in-law Sushila Devi, 45, father-in-law Antu, 50, and his two-and-a-half-year-old son before fleeing. On being alerted, police rushed them to a hospital, where Preeti and Sushila were declared dead.Antu was referred to Varanasi for advanced treatment. The SP has formed three teams to arrest the accused after sending the bodies for post-mortem.Initial probe revealed Amit married Preeti four years ago and the couple had a son. Preeti had been staying at her maternal home for the past few months due to alleged harassment by her husband. Amit made repeated visits to his in-laws’ home to take her back, but she refused.On Saturday night, as a wedding procession played loud music next door, Amit entered his in-laws’ house through the roof, police said. He attacked Preeti and Sushila while they slept on the rooftop. When Antu, who was downstairs, intervened to stop Amit from attacking their son, Amit stabbed him too.According to police, Amit also tried to strangulate his sister-in-law when she attempted to intervene before fleeing.Based on Antu’s complaint, police lodged an FIR against Amit.
