Times News NetworkMapusa: A suspected suicide attempt at Karaswada, Mapusa, in North Goa, left a man and his minor son dead, while the wife remains in critical condition.Police said Ajay Jadhav, 38, a private bank employee, and his son Atharva, a school student aged seven, were found dead in their rented house on Saturday noon.Ajay’s wife, Suvarna, 30, a homemaker, was found critically ill, and shifted to the Goa Medical College (GMC). She is in the ICU.The family, originally from Sonurli in Sawantwadi, Maharashtra, had been living in a rented room at Indiranagar, Mapusa, for the past year. Investigators said the couple consumed a poisonous substance just before dinner on Friday night. Cooked food consistent with their usual meals was found untouched.Police said Ajay’s father had spoken to him on Friday night. After repeated calls by relatives to Ajay and Suvarna went unanswered on Saturday morning, he travelled from Sonurli to Mapusa by bus and found them in the apartment.Authorities and medical teams were called, and Mapusa police cordoned off the area. A forensic examination and inquest were conducted, and the bodies of Ajay and Atharva were sent for a postmortem examination to confirm the cause of death.“The victims were relatively new to the area and were not known to many of the neighbours,” a neighbour said on the condition of anonymity. While the circumstances strongly indicate a coordinated suicide attempt by the couple, a senior police officer said it was too early to establish a clear motive or confirm the definitive sequence of events. The investigation remains heavily dependent on the recovery of the sole survivor.“We are in the process of contacting other family members to uncover any underlying stressors. The woman remains in a highly critical condition. Police are investigating all possible angles,” said superintendent of police Salim Sheikh.
