Bengaluru: A five-month-old puppy sustained injuries on its neck after a local resident shot and injured it with his air gun in Madanayakanahalli near Nelamangala recently. A petition was filed at the jurisdictional Madanayakahalli police station against the man identified as S Krishnamurthy, 65, of Kanva Layout.Later, he apologised for his act, stating he had shot towards a pack of stray dogs, fearing they could hurt his livestock, police said.According to police, the incident took place on Sept 20 when pet lovers Sindhu, Sahana and others saw Krishnamurthy holding the air gun near a site where they usually fed the dogs. At the same time, they noticed blood oozing from the puppy.“On the same stretch lived Krishnamurthy. He had livestock including chicken, sheep and goat in his backyard. Saying stray dogs will attack them, he had erected a fence,” an investigating officer said.“That day, I saw a pack of dogs near the fence and feared that they would somehow break in and harm my stock. That’s why I randomly shot at them from a distance, with an intention of frightening them,” Krishnamurthy told cops.Meanwhile, the complainants immediately shifted the bleeding puppy into an auto before taking it to a veterinary hospital. There were heated arguments between the complainants and Krishnamurthy when the former questioned him.
