Gurgaon: A 39-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly firing shots in the air outside MGF Mall on MG Road in the early hours of Friday, an act police said was done “for fun” but posed a serious threat to public safety.The accused, Naveen Kumar, a property dealer from Baas Mohalla in Ghitorni, Delhi, was apprehended on Saturday by a crime branch team.Police said the incident surfaced after mall authorities lodged a complaint at DLF Phase-2 police station. According to the complaint, a car exiting the mall briefly halted at the main gate, after which the driver extended his hand out of the window and fired shots in the air before speeding away.The firing triggered panic among security personnel and visitors near the exit, raising concerns over safety in the busy commercial area.During the investigation, police traced the vehicle involved and identified Kumar. The car has since been recovered from his possession.Preliminary questioning revealed that Kumar had visited a club inside the mall shortly before the incident. He allegedly opened fire while driving towards the exit gate.An FIR has been registered under relevant sections at DLF Phase-2 police station. The accused will be produced before a city court and taken on remand for further questioning to establish the motive and recover the weapon used.Police said such reckless firing, even without intent to harm, endangers lives and will invite strict action.
