Times News NetworkLudhiana: A 25-year-old migrant worker was hacked to death with a sharp-edged weapon in Mandiyani village of Mullanpur Dakha on Tuesday, police said. The deceased, Sitaram, a native of Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, had been living in Khanna. Police said Sitaram worked for a local transport business owned by Sukhwinder Singh.The victim’s father, Virender Thakur, told the police that Sitaram had spoken to him two days ago and said that he had been receiving life threats from unknown persons. According to Thakur, the callers accused his son of eloping with a woman.Locals spotted the body on Tuesday morning and informed Mandiyani village sarpanch Mandeep Singh, who alerted the police. Residents told investigators that Sitaram was seen consuming liquor with some people on Monday night. A sharp-edged weapon recovered from the crime scene is suspected to have been used in the murder.Deputy superintendent of police (Dakha) Karan Singh Sandhu said police were examining all possible angles, including personal enmity. He added that no complaint regarding elopement had been received against the victim so far and police were verifying the claims made by the victim’s father.The DSP said a few suspects have been rounded up and are being questioned. Police said Sitaram was married but lived separately from his wife.
