Jhunjhunu: A 32-year-old man climbed a water tank Thursday morning in Jhunjhunu’s Paunkh Gram Panchayat to protest the poor condition of the village playground. He alleged that the ground has remained neglected for nearly 15 years and demanded that construction and development work begin immediately. The man identified as Nirmal said around 300 to 400 youths in the village are compelled to run and practice on roads every morning and evening due to lack of a proper playground. He said that villagers have repeatedly approached the panchayat and the local school for improvement of the playground, but both sides keep shifting responsibility to one another, delaying any action.According to him, climbing the tank was meant to draw the administration’s attention and force a decision on the long-pending issue. After receiving information, the tehsildar and a police team reached the spot. A large crowd of villagers also gathered and appealed to Nirmal to come down. Officials and locals counselled him for about two hours and assured him that the matter would be resolved soon. A written complaint was submitted on the spot after which Nirmal came down. Villagers have demanded a permanent solution and proper sports facilities.
