Pune: A 17-year-old girl’s timely call to a child helpline recently foiled her forced marriage and led the police to book her father, a labour contractor, for allegedly forging her Aadhaar card to conceal her age and arrange her marriage. The labour contractor has been booked under sections 336 (forgery), 337 (forgery of a court record or public register) and other relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). “After receiving the information from the child helpline, we traced the caller to Khed taluka. Her father claimed that she was a major and showed her Aadhaar card to the police team,” Suryavanshi said.“The girl informed us that her father had altered the date of birth on her Aadhaar card. During questioning, the man admitted to have changed his daughter’s birth year on the Aadhaar card to conceal the age and arrange her marriage,” he said.“The father also revealed that he had obtained the duplicate Aadhaar card from a village in Khed taluka. We have recorded his statement and served him a notice. Further investigation is underway,” Suryavanshi said.
