Lucknow: A 60-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by his alcoholic son after he refused to give him money for more liquor in Balrampur district late Saturday night. The accused also allegedly attacked his mother with a brick when she tried to save her husband, leaving her seriously injured.The incident took place at Lal Chauraha in Tulsipur. Police arrested the accused, identified as Pintu, from the spot.According to police and family members, Kallu, 60, worked in making and repairing truck leaf springs. His sons assisted him in the business. Pintu was addicted to alcohol, and frequent disputes had erupted in the family over his drinking habit. Owing to his behaviour, Kallu had recently stopped him from working at the shop, leading to strained relations between the father and son.

On Saturday night, Pintu allegedly returned home drunk and demanded money from his father to buy more liquor. When Kallu refused, an argument broke out and soon escalated into a violent scuffle. During the altercation, Pintu allegedly picked up a stick and repeatedly assaulted his father.Hearing Kallu’s cries for help, his wife, Phoolmati, rushed to intervene. The accused allegedly attacked her with a brick, seriously injuring her before locals thwarted his attempt to flee.Neighbours alerted the police, who rushed both victims to the Community Health Centre. Doctors declared Kallu dead on arrival, while Phoolmati was referred to the district hospital after primary treatment due to the severity of her injuries.Relatives said Pintu’s wedding had been scheduled to take place in about two months, and the family had already begun preparations before the incident shattered their plans.Police said an FIR has been registered on the complaint of the deceased’s family, and the accused remains in custody.
