Jaipur: A 28-year-old man was beaten to death with sticks on a busy road in Shanti Nagar near Gurjar Ki Thadi Tuesday evening, with passers-by watching as mute spectators as the assault unfolded. A video of the attack went viral, triggering outrage.DCP (South) Rajarshi Raj Varma said three suspects have been arrested and a minor detained. “One of the accused is a history-sheeter and had been wanted by the city police,” he said, adding that the accused were identified as Manish Kumar Solanki (23), Ramzan Ali (19) and Rohit Yadav (19). Police said that both Yadav and Solanki had seven cases each filed at different police stations.The victim, Balveer Jatav, a native of Sheopur in Madhya Pradesh, lived in Shanti Nagar, Gurjar Ki Thadi, and worked as a marble and tiles installer. His brother, Ramveer, lodged an FIR.Police said the attack took place on Shanti Nagar Road after an argument allegedly broke out when eggs being carried by the accused fell onto the road following a collision with Jatav. The dispute escalated quickly, and the accused allegedly attacked him with sticks, repeatedly striking him on the head. Two of Jatav’s companions were also injured.The viral video purportedly shows the attackers raining blows on Jatav as onlookers stood by without intervening. The assault stopped only after he collapsed unconscious.Police said residents later overpowered one accused. Two others were arrested and the juvenile was detained during the investigation.Jatav was first taken to Jaipuria Hospital and then referred to SMS Hospital, where he died around midnight.Police said all four are being questioned and the investigation is underway.Family members alleged the accused had been terrorising the locality for some time. Jatav’s maternal uncle claimed residents were too frightened to intervene because of the group’s alleged history of violence.Residents also flagged recurring law-and-order problems around a liquor shop on Shanti Nagar Road, alleging that drunken men often create a nuisance, stalk women, harass students preparing for competitive exams and assault those who object.
