Agartala: A 45-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by a mob in Tripura’s Khowai district on Wednesday after being suspected of attempting to steal cattle, police said.The incident took place in Bagber locality under Kalyanpur police station following a pre-dawn alert by a villager about a suspected cattle theft attempt.The victim, Jalil Rahman, a resident of Ghilatali bazaar, was allegedly confronted and severely assaulted by a group of people. The group later informed the police.When police reached the spot, Rahman was found critically injured. He was taken to Kalyanpur hospital, where doctors declared him dead.The body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem examination.Police have launched a probe to establish the circumstances of the incident and identify those involved in the assault. Rahman’s family has lodged a complaint seeking legal action against the accused.The family, however, could not confirm why Rahman had gone to the village at night.
