Man beaten to death in revenge attack; 8 booked

Lucknow: A 27-year-old man with a criminal history was allegedly beaten to death in a revenge attack by eight individuals on Friday. The incident took place in Sarthua village under PGI police station limits.The deceased, Abhishek Rawat of Jagatkheda, worked as a shuttering labourer.According to a complaint lodged by his mother, Abhishek was called out of his house by Raju alias Rajja and taken to Sarthua village, where a group led by Akhilesh Rawat allegedly assaulted him with sticks, sharp-edged weapons and iron rods.Family members rushed the severely injured Abhishek to the Apex Trauma Centre at SGPGI, where doctors declared him dead during treatment.Senior police officers, including ADCP (South) Vasanth Kumar, visited the crime scene, and later formed five teams to nab the accused.The victim’s family alleged that the murder stemmed from an old rivalry and accused Akhilesh Rawat of masterminding the attack.Police said Akhilesh also sustained injuries during the incident, and was taken into custody for after being discharged from the hospital.Investigators said both Abhishek and Akhilesh had criminal backgrounds. Police registered a murder case against eight name accused and several unidentified persons.
