Man arrested for mobile theft, ₹40k UPI fraud
The police recovered both the stolen smartphone and the transferred cash from the accused’s possession.

Chandigarh: The IT Park police arrested a Kansal resident for allegedly stealing a shopkeeper’s mobile phone in Kishangarh and fraudulently transferring ₹40,750 from the victim’s bank account. The accused, identified as Suraj, was tracked down using technical evidence and has been sent to 14 days of judicial custody by a local court. The police recovered both the stolen smartphone and the transferred cash from his possession.The incident occurred on June 3, when Suraj entered a local grocery store owned by the complainant, Dayanand Sharma, under the pretext of buying goods. Spotting an opportunity while browsing the shop, the accused quietly stole Sharma’s mobile phone from the counter and fled. He then accessed the device to transfer the funds directly into his own bank account.Upon realising that his phone was missing and that a large sum of money had been drained from his account, Sharma lodged a formal complaint at the IT Park police station. The police initially registered a case against an unknown person before their investigation and digital clues pointed directly to Suraj, leading to his arrest and subsequent interrogation.
