CHENNAI: Madras high court on Monday directed the Puducherry govt to explain as to whether an FIR would be registered against superintendent of police A Subramanian who is facing complaints of sexual harassment by women constables.Justice V Lakshminarayanan issued the interim directions on a plea moved by the mother of a victim. The officer was placed under suspension on Sept 24 only after the intervention of the court.“The DGP and the home secretary shall take a call on whether an FIR is to be registered or not and its decision shall be intimated to the court on Wednesday,” the judge said.According to the petitioner, her daughter was subjected to sexual harassment while serving in Karaikkal in 2024 who attempted to commit suicide.Censuring the territorial administration for not acting upon the complaints and the internal complaints committee reports, the judge said it is an unfortunate situation where the manner in which the papers were proceeding gives an indication that the guilty are sought to be protected by the administration.Article 14 of the Constitution not only guarantees equality before law, but it also guarantees equal protection of the law, the court said.
