Lorry rams into parked tipper; driver stuck in wreckage saved

Chennai: A lorry driver was rescued after being trapped inside the crushed remains of his vehicle following a collision near Sholavaram on Tuesday morning.The incident unfolded around 5am near Nallur toll plaza, where a tipper lorry was parked by the roadside. Muthupandi, who was driving a container truck and was heading from Vandalur to Minjur, lost control and slammed into the stationary vehicle. In the impact, the front of the container lorry was completely destroyed. Muthupandi was trapped inside the wreckage, pinned amid the debris, crying out in pain as he struggled to escape.Within minutes, fire and rescue teams from Red Hills rushed to the scene. Battling against time and the mangled remains, firefighters launched a tense rescue operation. Using heavy equipment, they carefully cut through the wreckage, inch by inch.After a prolonged effort, the team finally managed to pull Muthupandi out alive. The driver, who suffered major head injuries, was conscious and was rushed to a nearby private hospital. An investigation is underway into the exact cause of the accident. Police suspect Muthupandi to have dozed off. The drivers gathered at the scene, demanded action against the tipper lorry driver for parking the vehicle on the roadside without any warning signs.
