Leopard kills child in Phalodi, Forest dept intensifies search

Jaipur: A leopard remained elusive in Dumoda and Phalodi range areas after killing a three-year-old child, prompting the forest department to intensify surveillance and launch round-the-clock efforts to safely rescue the animal. The department has deployed camera traps and installed trap cages to track the leopard’s movements. A specialised rescue team is working 24×7, while forest personnel continue patrolling and monitoring villages adjoining the two ranges.A senior official said teams were coordinating with sarpanches and local representatives and asking them to ensure that safety advisories were widely circulated among villagers.Residents have been advised to exercise caution at night and during early morning hours and avoid venturing out alone. It has also been advised that children should not be left outside unattended, and people visiting farms and open areas should travel in groups. The forest department has also urged residents not to approach, surround or attempt to chase the leopard if it is spotted. “Any information about its presence or movement should immediately be passed on to the forest team,” the official said.Officials also appealed to people not to spread unverified information or rumours on social media, saying public cooperation would be crucial to ensuring safety and facilitating the leopard’s safe rescue.
