PUNE: The mortal remains of veteran actor Nana Patekar were taken to Pune on Thursday evening, where he will be accorded a state funeral in recognition of his contribution to theatre and cinema, officials said.Patekar, 76, died at his residence in Goa in the early hours of Thursday.The mortal remains were kept for public ‘darshan’ for around 20 minutes before being taken to Manohar International Airport at Mopa in a decorated ambulance for the journey to Pune.

“The mortal remains will be brought to Pune…and kept for the final ‘darshan’. The last rites will be performed on the premises of his Pune farmhouse,” said Ganesh Thorat, CEO of Patekar’s Naam Foundation.The farmhouse is located at Donje, on the outskirts of Pune city.Maharashtra Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar announced that Patekar would be accorded a state funeral in recognition of his contribution to theatre and cinema.
Leaders, fans pay tributes to Nana Patekar in Goa
Several leaders, including Goa Culture Minister Ramesh Tawadkar, BJP leader and MLA Govind Gaude and Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Girish Chodankar, paid tributes to Patekar at Goa Medical College and Hospital.A large number of people also gathered at the mortuary of the hospital in Bambolim to pay their final respects to the veteran actor.
Nana Patekar’s son, nephew present during autopsy
Patekar’s son Malhar and his nephew Sachin Patekar were among the family members present at the hospital when the autopsy was conducted.His wife, Neelkanti, and son Malhar were also present as the mortal remains were taken out of the mortuary at Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim for transportation to Pune.(With agency inputs)
