Submitting its timeline to the court, the civic body stated that “all the endeavours shall be made to process and dispose the mix waste lying at the dumping ground by 15th November subject to clear and hassle-free days.”

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh municipal corporation (MC) has submitted a detailed two-page affidavit in the Punjab and Haryana high court, committing to completely process and dispose of all mixed legacy waste at the Dadumajra dumping site by Nov 15.Filed in the name of the municipal commissioner, the affidavit outlines the current status of garbage disposal, future processing blueprints, and details of legacy waste removed from the site over past years.Submitting its timeline to the court, the civic body stated that “all the endeavours shall be made to process and dispose the mix waste lying at the dumping ground by 15th November subject to clear and hassle-free days.”Rainy days delayed garbage lifting: OfficialsCivic officials revealed that past delays in clearing the dumping ground were primarily caused by rainy weather, which hampers operational machinery and ground movement at the site.Addressing allegations of illegal dumping outside city limits, the civic body affirmed that “no unprocessed waste is being dumped outside the boundary of Chandigarh, that is, no waste is being dumped at the neighbouring cities or states of Punjab or Haryana.”The civic body also clarified that no unprocessed garbage is being dumped in unauthorised areas within Chandigarh, adding that “whatever waste is thrown by the residents in areas other than the designated areas within the city, is also being periodically lifted by the MC and such citizens are also being challaned.”Explaining its current waste processing system, the corporation stated that processed material is managed by a contractual agency, primarily converted into refuse derived fuel (RDF) and consumed by factories in Muzaffarnagar, Karnal, Jaipur, and Dera Bassi.Remaining waste components are handled systematically, with inert materials sent to the sanitary landfill (SLF) and compost sold or utilised at the discretion of the processing agency.
