LDA to conduct fire safety audit of 8 lakh buildings in city

Lucknow: To improve fire safety in buildings following the Aliganj fire mishap, the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has decided to conduct a fire safety audit of around eight lakh residential units, apartments and commercial buildings across the city. The authority will hire a private agency for the exercise. It will begin with LDA-developed colonies before being extended to other areas in phases. The audit will assess several factors that affect fire safety, including the condition of electrical wiring, power load, availability of setback space, staircase access to the roof, quality of doors and windows, width of the approach lane, availability of nearby water sources, distance from the nearest fire station, and the number and placement of air-conditioner outdoor units.LDA vice-chairperson Prathamesh Kumar said every building inspected during the audit will be assigned a safety rating under a 10-point marking system.Based on the score, a plate displaying the building’s fire safety rating will be installed outside the property, indicating its hazard level. The audit report will also be shared with the Fire Department to facilitate corrective measures.
