Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh deputy chief minister Chowna Mein on Saturday called for mandatory teaching of the revised Tai Khamti script in both govt and private schools across the state, describing languages and scripts as living repositories of history and identity.Speaking at the felicitation ceremony of the second workshop and language teacher training programme on the Tai Khamti Revised Script and Pali Literature at Namsai, Mein urged the district administration, school authorities, and community leaders to ensure the script is taught in “letter and spirit”.“The purpose must be served,” Mein said, calling for a dedicated period to be set aside in school schedules specifically for instruction in the script.

He also stressed the importance of teaching the Pali language at the Pali Vidyapeeth, saying Pali contains the most authentic and complete record of early Buddhist teachings and the core philosophy of Gautama Buddha.Mein congratulated the newly trained teachers who completed the programme and expressed confidence in their ability to pass down the linguistic heritage to future generations. He also acknowledged the efforts of the Tai Khamti Heritage & Literature Society, the Tai Khamti Literary Board, local monks, and community elders in safeguarding the indigenous language and Buddhist literature.
