Land sale feud ends in man killing two uncles

Rajkot: A dispute over the proceeds from the sale of ancestral land led to a deadly confrontation here late on Sunday night, during which a 27-year-old man allegedly fatally stabbed his two paternal uncles near Somnath Society-2 in the University police station area.The deceased are Suresh Dholakiya (55) and his brother, Rajesh Dholakiya (35). Both were stabbed. Suresh was declared dead on arrival at a private hospital, while Rajesh succumbed during treatment.Lakha Dholakiya (24), Suresh’s son, was also injured while attempting to intervene.The accused, Hardik Dholakiya (27), is also being treated at a private hospital. Police said he will be arrested after his discharge.Based on a complaint lodged by Lakha, University police registered an FIR against Hardik for murder, according to which Rajesh had called Suresh around midnight, after which Suresh and Lakha went to Somnath Society. There, Hardik was abusing them. When they tried to calm him down, he pulled out a knife and stabbed Suresh in the chest before attacking Rajesh and Lakha.Hardik lodged a counter-complaint against his two deceased uncles, Lakha and one Shiva Donda for attempted murder. He stated that the dispute stemmed from the sale of land belonging to his grandfather, Viha Dholakiya, on Sadhu Vaswani Road. He alleged that Suresh had managed the property and later sold it, but did not pay his family’s share for two-and-a-half years despite repeated demands.Hardik stated that while passing through Somnath Society on Sunday night, he encountered Rajesh and others, who allegedly argued with him before attacking him with a pipe and a knife. He stated that he snatched the knife and retaliated in self-defence.Police said statements of witnesses are being recorded. Suresh Dholakiya was engaged in farming and dairying, while Rajesh Dholakiya was also involved in animal husbandry. The family is from Dudhala village in Amreli district.
