KPTCL work delays opening of revamped Magrath Road

Bengaluru: Inauguration of the revamped Magrath Road in central Bengaluru has been delayed due to underground line work by Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) holding up final stages of the project. Officials said the road is expected to be ready for use by the end of next week.KPTCL is laying underground electric lines between Magrath Road and Opera House on Brigade Road. Once the work is completed, Bengaluru Central City Corporation (BCCC) will take up final painting and other finishing works before opening the road.BCCC executive engineer for Shantinagar division Atif Mohammed said the road could be ready for inauguration by the end of next week, subject to KPTCL completing work.The 350-metre stretch between Brigade Road and Commissariat Road has been transformed into a redesigned urban street with wider accessible footpaths, new streetlights and upgraded drainage infrastructure. The Rs 3-crore project took nearly a year to complete.The project was carried out under the supervision of BDA chairperson and Shantinagar MLA NA Haris, who also resides off Magrath Road. Haris said he had been personally monitoring the project and providing inputs on aspects, including materials and streetlight design.
