Kota doctors reinstated after probes find no negligence

Jaipur: Four separate inquiry committees probing postpartum deaths and kidney failures in hospitals attached to Kota Medical College have found no medical negligence by doctors, prompting the Medical Education Department to reinstate three suspended senior faculty members Friday.The state govt had suspended professor B L Patidar of the gynaecology department and associate professors Khushboo Meena and Navneet Kumar of the surgery department on May 9 after widespread public outrage following the deaths.Medical Education Department joint secretary Jyoti Chauhan issued orders cancelling the suspensions and reinstating the three doctors Friday.“All three doctors have resumed their duties after they were cleared of any negligence in the deaths,” Govt Medical College and Associated Group of Hospitals, Kota, principal and controller Nilesh Kumar Jain told TOI.The exoneration of the three doctors follows multiple inquiries.Kota Medical College first formed an internal panel to probe the postpartum deaths, after which separate committees from AIIMS, Delhi, SMS Medical College, Jaipur, Medical College Jodhpur and New Medical College, Kota, examined the cases in detail.The committees reviewed medicines, treatment protocols, possible infection sources and patient histories.The investigations found no common cause behind the maternal deaths. They also found no personal fault or negligence attributable to the three doctors, and concluded that they had followed applicable treatment protocols.The first cluster of cases involving postpartum complications was reported on May 5 from New Medical College, Kota, where several women admitted after childbirth developed kidney failure.Five women were initially affected, while a total of 12 were later examined as suspected cases.
