Kolkata: Kolkata remained dry and warm on Mahalaya even as the maximum temperature clocked 31.2°C. It will continue to remain dry and humid over the next three days, said the Met office. The weather, however, could change from Oct 14 under the impact of a low-pressure area that is set to form over southeast Bay of Bengal.“The city and south Bengal could receive sporadic rain from Oct 14. It could continue for the subsequent three days till the beginning of the pujas. So, the beginning of the pujas could see a few spells of moderate shower,” said Regional Meteorological Centre weather scientist Sourish Bandopadhyay. The wind pattern could change once the system forms and it could trigger moisture incursion into the region. “These two factors could lead to cloud formation and rain. But so far, we expect sporadic showers and not heavy downpours,” said Bandopadhyay. It could turn dry from Oct 20 (Nabami), said the Met office. Last year, a low pressure that had intensified into a depression had triggered 251 mm of rain a day before the pujas, leading to waterlogging across the city.
