Ex-minister duped of ₹25L in Madhapur land deal

Hyderabad: Former minister and Andhra Pradesh MLC C Ramachandraiah has alleged that he was cheated of ₹25 lakh by a group of individuals who allegedly posed as owners of a prime parcel of land in Madhapur and offered to sell it to him. Jubilee Hills police have registered a case and launched an investigation.According to the complaint, the 77-year-old legislator, a resident of Road No. 71, Jubilee Hills, approached the police on Thursday night, alleging that P Tulasi Gopal, his son P Giridhar, and a few others induced him and his wife to buy a 5.5-acre property on the 100 Feet Road in Madhapur, claiming ownership of the land.“Believing the claims, I paid a token advance of Rs 25 lakh through RTGS. When I asked for authentic title documents, the accused evaded my requests,” Ramachandraiah alleged. The MLC said he grew suspicious after the accused repeatedly failed to provide supporting ownership records. Subsequent enquiries, he claimed, revealed that the land did not belong to Gopal.Describing the episode as a premeditated conspiracy, Ramachandraiah urged the police to conduct a thorough probe into the ownership of the property and the alleged fraudulent activities of the accused.Based on his complaint, Jubilee Hills police registered a case against Gopal, Giridhar and others under Sections 316(2) (criminal breach of trust) and 318(4) (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).“We are verifying the allegations and collecting evidence,” a Jubilee Hills police officer said.
