Dhubri: Koch Rajbongshi National Students’ Union’s (KRANSU) hunger strike at Borpara Public Playground in Bongaigaon crossed 100 hours on Friday.KRANSU began the agitation on Aug 25 as a 72-hour hunger strike. It was extended indefinitely after the deadline ended on Aug 28 without a written govt response. The organisation is demanding scheduled tribe status for the Koch-Rajbongshi community within a fixed timeframe, elections to the Kamatapur Autonomous Council before Jan 2027, and political dialogue on its demand for a separate Kamatapur State.KRANSU president Hriday Kumar Ray said the agitation would continue until the govt provided a clear, written and time-bound response.“We launched the agitation with the expectation that the govt would respond to our demands within the stipulated time. Since we have not received any written response, we have decided to continue the hunger strike indefinitely. We appeal to the govt to immediately initiate dialogue and provide a clear, written and time-bound response on all three demands,” Ray added. He urged the govt to take note of the protesters’ deteriorating health and intervene immediately. The medical team monitoring the protesters said one participant has developed severe health complications due to prolonged fasting.KRANSU said it would pursue the demands through democratic, peaceful and constitutional means.
