Hyderabad: Union minister Kishan Reddy on Sunday accused the Telangana govt of failure in monsoon preparedness, alleging that even light showers are inundating roads in Hyderabad because of poor civic maintenance and administrative neglect. After visiting several colonies in Nampally Assembly constituency, the Secunderabad MP said key pre-monsoon works such as desilting of stormwater drains and pipelines, tree plantation and other civic maintenance tasks had not been taken up adequately across the GHMC limits.“Even a brief spell of rain is turning roads into lakes, causing hardship to commuters and residents,” he said. The BJP leader also targeted both the previous BRS govt and the present Congress govt, alleging that while both had promised to transform Hyderabad into cities like London and Singapore, neither had taken meaningful steps to improve the city’s infrastructure.Expressing concern over Hyderabad’s changing climate, Kishan Reddy said the city was increasingly turning into a “concrete jungle” because of rapid urbanisation and the growth of apartment complexes, leading to rising temperatures and environmental degradation. He said Hyderabad recorded 40-50% below-normal rainfall in June this year, highlighting the need to conserve every drop of rainwater. He urged citizens and authorities to promote rainwater harvesting by creating recharge pits in homes, parks and public spaces so that rainwater seeps into the ground instead of flowing into the Musi river and eventually into the sea.Earlier, in a bid to encourage fitness, Kishan Reddy inaugurated open gyms in several parks within Nampally constituency.
