KIA to levy UDF on arriving passengers from Sept 1

Bengaluru:Bengaluru: Passengers using Kempegowda International Airport will have to pay a revised user development fee (UDF) from Sep1, 2026, with charges applicable to both inbound and outbound passengers for the first time. The revised tariff follows the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India’s (AERA) order for the fourth control period (FY27–FY31).As per the tariff order, from Sept 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027, domestic outbound passengers will pay Rs 300 as UDF, while those arriving will pay Rs 125. For international passengers, the charge will be Rs 997 for departures and Rs 426 for arrivals.Until Aug 31, the existing UDF applicable to departing domestic and international passengers will continue. The revised structure marks a change from the existing system, under which only outbound passengers pay UDF.Importantly, Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) said the revised structure does not amount to an increase in the overall base UDF. The combined domestic UDF under the new structure will be Rs 425, compared with Rs 550 currently charged to an outbound domestic passenger. For international passengers, the combined UDF will be Rs 1,423, against the existing Rs 1,500.BIAL said that the tariff order takes into account significant infrastructure investments planned at the airport, including Terminal 2 Phase 2, the T2 Phase 2 apron, airfield works, road and landside infrastructure and other aeronautical projects. The revised tariff structure will also help support capacity expansion as Bengaluru’s air traffic grows.BIAL said certain incremental tariffs linked to major projects will be applicable only after the respective infrastructure is completed, commissioned and put into use, and after following the process prescribed by AERA.
