Bengaluru: Kempegowda International Airport has launched Digi Yatra trials for international departures on select IndiGo and Air India flights, extending its face-enabled, contactless passenger processing system beyond domestic air travel.A press release said passengers will be able to establish their identity through e-passport chip validation on Digi Yatra app, followed by photo verification. The initial trial will cover terminal entry and security, with the potential to extend up to boarding for select international flights of IndiGo and Air India. Immigration and emigration will remain separate statutory processes, and passengers must continue to carry required travel documents. “The trial does not replace mandatory document verification by airlines at designated counters,” the press release said.George Fanthome, chief technical officer, Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), said the trial combines secure digital identity with face-enabled processing to reduce repeated document checks across participating touchpoints.Digi Yatra is already used for domestic air travel across India and currently has more than 26.5 million users.
