Chandigarh: Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria inaugurated the Pulse Polio campaign at the Model Immunization Centre (MIC), Urban Community Health Centre (UCHC), Sector 22.The campaign was formally launched with Kataria administering two drops of oral polio vaccine (OPV) to children aged 0–5 years, reaffirming the Chandigarh administration’s commitment to protecting every child against polio.Health Secretary Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah welcomed the chief guest. The newly-inaugurated Model Immunization Centre at UCHC, Sector 22, is the fifth such facility in Chandigarh.Designed to provide a child-friendly, safe, and comfortable vaccination environment, it features dedicated vaccination areas, a play zone for children during post-vaccination observation, and a breastfeeding corner to ensure privacy and convenience for nursing mothers.During his visit, Kataria inspected various sections of the centre and reviewed healthcare facilities in Sector 22.Dr Sadbhavna Pandit, officiating director, health services, briefed the chief guest on immunisation activities and achievements. Kataria appreciated the department’s efforts in creating a welcoming and supportive environment for children and parents.A total of 478 Pulse Polio booths have been set up across Chandigarh, supported by 1,078 vaccination teams to ensure complete coverage.The health department is also conducting a night immunisation initiative, “Taare Zameen Par – Night Vigil,” aimed at administering polio drops to children of migrant labourers, homeless families, rag-pickers, and other vulnerable groups.Four special night vigil teams — each comprising a supervisor, police personnel, vaccinator, and driver — begin their activities daily from 7pm to reach children in remote and underserved areas.On the first day of the campaign, around 34,835 children were administered polio drops across Chandigarh.
