Karnataka to mark late chief minister Ramakrishna Hegde 100th birth anniversary
Karnataka will mark the centenary of Ramakrishna Hegde’s birth, with both central and state officials in attendance

BENGALURU: Karnataka will mark the birth centenary of late chief minister Ramakrishna Hegde on Aug 29, with central and state functionaries expected to attend the celebrations.He led the state for three terms between 1983 and 1988 and later served as Union minister for commerce and industry from 1998 to 1999.He passed away in Jan 2004.His family recalled an incident when around 70-80 protesters once gathered outside his residence, sloganeering and picketing.Hegde walked to the gate, asked for the group’s leader and invited them in for tea, telling them: “You’ve been shouting for the last 45 minutes, Your throat must be parched.”When the cops found the CM seated with the protesters. Hegde reassured them, saying: “Don’t worry, they’re all my supporters now.”
