Bengaluru: Karnataka will offer free anti-rabies vaccination to 11 lakh pet animals across the state in Oct and Nov under Assistance to States for Control of Animal Diseases (ASCAD) programme, animal husbandry minister C Puttarangashetty said Monday.The initiative is part of the state’s efforts to achieve zero human deaths from dog-mediated rabies by 2030.Puttarangashetty was speaking at the inauguration of World Rabies Day 2026 programme at AV Rama Rao Auditorium, Indian Institute of Science. “Rabies is a fatal disease. Prevention and timely vaccination of animals remain the most effective ways to protect both animals and people from it,” he said.Frontline personnel involved in the campaign will be given ABHAYRAB vaccine to prevent rabies infection.Vinoth Priya R, secretary, animal husbandry and fisheries department, said rabies elimination is possible only through ‘one health’ approach to human, animal and environmental health.
