Karnataka opposition welcomes CBI probe into Hebbal land scam

Bengaluru: Opposition leaders have welcomed Karnataka high court’s order directing a CBI probe into Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board’s acquisition of prime Hebbal land for a non-existent private entity, which the court termed a “monumental fraud”. BJP MLA Suresh Kumar said BMRCL had sought the land for a multi-modal transit hub and agreed to pay compensation, but despite his repeated appeals to the chief minister and industries minister to cancel the transfer to a private firm, the state govt failed to act. He said the court has now exposed blatant wrongdoing. Union minister Shobha Karandlaje said the ruling quashing the 55-acre transfer is a major victory for the public, adding that more irregularities will surface during the probe.
