Ghaziabad: A 20-year-old man, headed to Haridwar with a friend on a bike for a kanwar pilgrimage, died after he was run over by a truck on National Highway-9. The victim had allegedly fallen off his bike after a roadways bus brushed the two-wheeler as he was taking a turn to the highway at Chhajarsi cut. The pillion rider suffered minor injuries in the crash.Police said the victim, Dipanshu Singh, left his home in Noida’s Chhalera village around 11 pm on Monday and planned to reach Uttarakhand by Tuesday morning to collect Ganga water. After the accident, several pilgrims blocked NH-9 for nearly 20 minutes before police cleared the road.On Monday, an ambulance carrying a patient was stranded for nearly 50 minutes on Delhi-Meerut Road as a group of Kanwar pilgrims blocked the road after their tractor was hit by the vehicle.Dipanshu’s father claimed that his son and his friend Chunnu were about to take a turn from Chhajarsi cut towards NH-9 when the roadways bus approaching from behind brushed against their bike, causing them to lose control and fall on the road. “The speeding dumper, which was just behind the bus, ran over Dipanshu and fled away,” he said. Dipanshu suffered fatal injuries and died on the spot.Indirapuram ACP Suryabali Maurya said an FIR was registered against two drivers — of a roadways bus and a truck — under BNS sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (1) (death due to negligence) on the complaint of the victim’s family. “Two teams are checking footage of CCTV cameras and trying to identify the vehicles,” the ACP said.Initial investigation, however, has ruled out a collision. CCTV footage from nearby areas, police said, showed the deceased lost his balance while riding and fell on the road and was subsequently run over by a truck.
