Bengaluru: Karnataka high court Thursday granted divorce to Kannada actor Duniya Vijay, ordering dissolution of his 27-year marriage with his wife Nagarathna.Allowing the miscellaneous first appeal filed by the actor, a division bench comprising Justice DK Singh and Justice H Shanthi Bhushan directed him to pay Rs 2 crore as permanent alimony/one-time settlement to his wife within three months. A delay in payment would attract 6% interest. The order copy is yet to be uploaded. The court passed the order after considering Nagarathna’s circumstances, the couple’s three children, and Vijay’s financial position and standing in the film industry. On June 13, 2024, a Bengaluru family court rejected Vijay’s 2018 petition seeking dissolution of marriage on the grounds of cruelty, holding that he had failed to prove the allegations. Vijay subsequently appealed against the order. Among other claims, Vijay said Nagarathna had not properly taken care of his parents. Nagarathna had initially opposed ending the marriage.Anticipatory bail for sonMeanwhile, a local court granted anticipatory bail to Samrat, son of Duniya Vijay, and five associates in connection with an alleged assault and kidnapping. Samrat’s friend Samrudh also filed a counter-complaint accusing Manish Gowda — whom they allegedly kidnapped and assaulted — of attacking him first. The incident occurred near RV University on Mysuru Road Tuesday, following a road-related dispute over a classmate’s car overtaking Samrat’s vehicle.
