Dibrugarh: The Jorhat water resources division has repaired four of nine embankment breaches caused by recent floods.Officials said two breaches on the Charaipani dyke at Hologuri and Mondal Gaon, one on the Kakodonga dyke at Nangal Gaon and another on the Bhogdoi dyke at Kulaichuk were repaired. Work on the remaining breaches is targeted for completion by Aug 15.“The successful closure of these four breaches has been possible only because of the round-the-clock efforts put in by our engineers, field staff and executing agencies, often working under extremely difficult conditions,” Jorhat DC Jay Shivani said on Sunday.At Pahumara on the Bhogdoi dyke, installation of the eighth geotube is underway, with 60% of the work completed. Solmara is nearly 90% complete, while work at Katiramchuk has reached 15%.“The swelling waters of the Jhanji river have somewhat hampered our work on the fifth geotube at Dhantola while the rising Bhogdoi has affected foundation preparation using type-B geobags at Majiavati, which currently stands at about 45% completion,” the DC said.“We are closely monitoring river levels on an hourly basis and adjusting our deployment of machinery and manpower accordingly. Despite the challenges posed by continuing rainfall and fluctuating water levels, we remain confident of completing all nine breach-repair works by Aug 15,” Shivani added.Additional geotubes, geobags and earth-moving machinery have been deployed at the remaining sites.“I have directed the executing agencies to ensure that no site is left short of manpower or material. Restoring these embankments is critical,” Shivani said.He urged residents near the embankments to remain vigilant and report fresh erosion or seepage to field staff.
