Jaipur: The enforcement wing of the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) removed 30 govt-run Saras Dairy booths Saturday after its Traffic Control Board (TCB) identified 130 such booths as encroachments across Jaipur.“Following a directive from the TCB chairperson, we initiated the drive to remove the earmarked Saras booths. On Saturday, we removed 30 booths across the city. The drive started on Friday, and we removed four booths on the first day. The drive would continue until we remove the 130 identified structures,” said Anand Sharma, the deputy inspector general of the enforcement wing of JDA.TOI on July 23 reported that the TCB, for the first time, officially classified govt-allotted Saras booths as illegal structures obstructing pedestrian pathways. During the last TCB meeting, held on July 22, the board members decided to clear these booths along with other unauthorised structures from footpaths along 10 to 12 major city roads.According to the board’s assessment, 10 of the 130 booths are completely unauthorised, 15 establishments are operating in place of approved Saras booths, 20 are operating from locations other than those allotted, five are functioning in the name of other brands and 80 have extended into adjoining public spaces.Saras dairy booths sell products of the Rajasthan Cooperative Dairy Federation, which functions under the animal husbandry and dairy department, while their allotment is handled by the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) under the Local Self Govt. The TCB has representatives from the JMC.“Besides removing these booths, we have decided to launch periodic inspections of the pavements to ensure that these encroachments don’t spring up in future. The mechanism to conduct such routine inspections will be formulated once the drive gets over,” said a TCB member.
