While friends of the deceased described the incident as a road accident, his family members expressed suspicion of foul play after noticing multiple injury marks on the body. They have demanded a postmortem examination by a medical board as well as an impartial investigation.The deceased has been identified as Sadiq Sharma (22), a resident of Akhnoor in Jammu.Police said Sadiq was travelling with five friends when the accident took place. His friends have been detained for questioning, and investigators are examining all aspects of the case.His father Rajinder Kumar told the police that Sadiq had come to Mohali on the invitation of his childhood friend, Vansh. Family members said Vansh was involved in a dispute with a young woman that had reached the police and Sadiq had been staying in Mohali for the past three to four days to help resolve the matter.Rajinder Kumar said he received a call from Sadiq’s friend Aryan around 4 am on Sunday, informing him about the accident. He travelled to Mohali, where he was informed at the civil hospital that his son had died. He said that upon seeing the injuries on Sadiq’s body, he raised doubts over the circumstances of the incident.Thar overturned while negotiating a turnPolice said the six friends left their apartment late on Saturday night in a Thar SUV, with Sadiq reportedly behind the wheel. Near Captain Chowk, the vehicle allegedly lost control and overturned.During the crash, Sadiq was partially thrown out of the driver’s side window and was trapped beneath the overturned vehicle, sustaining critical injuries. Passersby extrictaed him and rushed him to a govt hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Another occupant, identified as Dheeraj, suffered an arm injury.CCTV footage inconclusiveInvestigators have obtained CCTV footage from a liquor shop near the accident site. However, the view of the crash is partially obstructed by an electricity pole, making the footage inconclusive. Preliminary findings suggest the vehicle was travelling at a speed of more than 100 kmph before the accident.
