Jaisalmer: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Monday arrested a veterinarian and a livestock inspector posted at the Govt First Grade Veterinary Hospital in Mohangarh, Jaisalmer, for allegedly accepting a bribe to process subsidy applications under the Rajasthan govt’s Camel Conservation Scheme. The accused, identified as veterinarian Raghav Doi and livestock inspector Sonu Raigar, were caught during a trap operation while allegedly accepting Rs 3,000, officials said.According to the ACB, the duo demanded money from a complainant to verify applications, tag camels and their calves, upload the applications online, and facilitate the release of subsidy benefits under the scheme. The livestock inspector allegedly accepted the bribe under the instructions of the veterinarian.Additional director general of ACB Smita Srivastava said the bureau received a complaint through its 1064 anti-corruption helpline. The complainant alleged that two female camels owned by him and his brother had recently given birth, making them eligible for financial assistance under the state govt’s Camel Conservation Scheme.During verification, the allegations were found to be prima facie true, following which the ACB laid a trap.Officials said the accused had allegedly demanded Rs 4,000-Rs 2,000 per application. Of the total amount, the complainant had already paid Rs 1,000, while the remaining Rs 3,000 was paid during the trap.Deputy inspector general of ACB, Jodhpur Range, Narayan Togas said beneficiaries under the scheme receive financial assistance in two instalments of Rs 10,000 each — one before calving for the care of the pregnant camel and another after the birth of the calf. Verification of applications, tagging of the camel and calf, and online processing are mandatory before the subsidy is credited to beneficiaries’ bank accounts.During the operation at the Mohangarh veterinary hospital, Sonu Raigar allegedly accepted the remaining Rs 3,000 in the presence of Dr Doi and kept the cash in his trouser pocket. The ACB team immediately apprehended both accused and recovered the tainted money. The operation was conducted by additional SP Narendra Kumar Inkhia under Togas’s supervision. A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
