Jaipur: City police have stepped up action against the illegal medicine trade in the city’s southern areas, with a joint operation by police and drug-control officials resulting in the suspension of licences of five medical firms and the seizure of suspected counterfeit, prohibited and unlicensed medicines.The operation was carried out in the Muhana and Sanganer Sadar areas.DCP (South) Rajarshi Raj Verma said that the action followed confidential inputs about the sale and distribution of medicines in violation of regulatory requirements.He said a joint team comprising personnel from the drug control department, Muhana police and Sanganer Sadar police inspected five medical firms at locations identified during the investigation. The team seized a quantity of medicines suspected to be illegal or counterfeit, following which the licences of all five firms were suspended, officials said.The team was led by drug controller Madan Mohan Singhal, Muhana SHO Devendra Singh and Sanganer Sadar police officers, among others.Police said the action forms part of a wider campaign against the illegal circulation of counterfeit and unlicensed medicines in Rajasthan. Officials are examining the source of the seized stock and the distribution chain through which the medicines allegedly reached the firms.The police also highlighted their broader crackdown on narcotics in the state. According to officials, illegal narcotic substances valued at around Rs 5.60 crore were disposed of during five operations conducted on April 18, April 29, May 30, July 3 and July 30 this year.In separate NDPS Act cases during 2026, police said they have seized 26 vehicles and narcotic substances valued at around Rs 3.89 crore.The crackdown has also led to the arrest of 10 wanted accused in NDPS cases, police said. The accused were carrying a combined reward of Rs 80,000.Officials said further action against medical firms found violating drug laws will follow after examination of the seized stock and investigation into the source of the medicines.
