Jaipur: Jaipur’s civic polls are nearing with a basic information gap: many voters do not know their revised ward numbers eight months after the Dec 2025 merger of JMC Greater and JMC Heritage. In simple words – most of the 35 lakh voters are unaware for which ward they will be electing councillors.The merger was followed by delimitation, which redrew ward boundaries across the city and changed ward numbers. Residents say the updated details have not been communicated in a clear, accessible manner. In colonies where wards were split and reassigned, the confusion is greater. Residents and traders report repeated visits to municipal offices for routine work, only to learn earlier ward numbers are no longer valid. Some say even division office staff cannot quickly identify the revised jurisdiction of colonies, forcing citizens to depend on informal networks.Shankar Dayaramani of Anandpuri Colony, Adarsh Nagar resident, faced the problem in March when he visited Malviya Nagar division office. Officials told him his colony was no longer part of Ward 148, but could not immediately confirm the new ward number as the old ward had been divided among multiple wards. “I eventually obtained the required information from a former councillor. Even with the administrative regime in place, it was difficult for me to trace my former councillor,” stated Dayaramani.The case reflects communication failure. With the corporation functioning under an administrative arrangement and without elected councillors, voters have lost a familiar local channel for civic information. Former councillors, party workers and booth-level functionaries are now filling the gap, but that leaves many residents dependent on last-minute guidance.Municipal officials blame the confusion on sudden mergers, boundary delimitation, and renumbering. “The govt map was insufficient for ordinary residents to understand which ward and division now covered their home or business. The absence of active councillors further slowed public communication,” an official said.Election officials admit time is limited. “Many voters may learn their ward numbers only through polling slips distributed close to election day or from local candidates once the political parties announce their lists,” an official said.
