Rajkot: Rajkot Rural police have arrested a Jaipur-based man for allegedly blackmailing and harassing a woman from the Paddhari police station area after befriending her on social media.Accused Afzal Ahmed Idrisi had sent the woman a Facebook friend request from an account named ‘Arush Idrisi’ around seven months ago. After she accepted the request, he began communicating with her on social media.According to the complaint, Idrisi obtained the woman’s WhatsApp number and Instagram account details and continued contacting her from different mobile numbers. He also collected her photographs and a seven-second video and pressured her to engage in obscene conversations.When the woman refused to enter into a relationship with him, Idrisi threatened to circulate her photographs and video on social media. He is also being accused of obtaining the victim’s Instagram password and accessing her account from his mobile phone.Investigators said Idrisi allegedly created a group involving around 30 of the woman’s relatives and acquaintances, where he posted her photographs along with those of another person, accompanied by obscene and derogatory messages. The posts were intended to defame and harass the woman.Following her complaint, Rajkot Rural police traced Idrisi to Jaipur through technical investigation.Rajkot district superintendent of police (SP) Vijay Singh Gurjar said investigators were also checking whether the accused had contacted or harassed other women in a similar manner.
